Finding a van

Oof, so you’re finally ready to make a van purchase!

First of all, congrats on making it here! You’ve saved your money, you’ve followed all of the #vanlife Instagram accounts, and you’ve decided it’s time to start a project of your own.

But now the work begins, and it all starts with finding the vehicle which will house your new home. Where do you begin?

Luckily for you, we’ve compiled a list of the BEST resources for searching for a van, whether it be bare-bones or already converted.

Craigslist

The tried and true source for finding used vehicles! Craigslist will always be my first choice for finding a used vehicle. My favorite search terms for looking for vans are:

  • Van
  • Chevy Van
  • Dodge Van
  • Van Conversion
  • Camper Van
  • Sprinter Van

Pretty much anything “van” will return results you are looking for. Another Craigslist “pro-tip” is to extend your search results to include nearby areas. This will give you a wider search radius which will hopefully present you with more options.

If you live in a rather Craigslist deprived area, or way out in the boonies, you’ll likely not get many local Craigslist results for vans. Luckily, you can search ALL of Craigslist using this website.

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace has certainly become a massive hub in the past few years for finding vehicles. In the beginning, not enough people were posting to Marketplace for it to be very useful for finding a van.

However, that has changed greatly! People are posting new and used vans to Facebook Marketplace left and right. I’ve seen A LOT of cool vehicles on there.

A few Facebook Marketplace tips for finding an awesome van:

  • Expand your search area
  • Message sellers with a genuine message, not the default “Is this still available” (btw…that is SUPER annoying as a seller)
  • Be wary of scammers and people posting screenshots of other listings
  • Save listings you’re interested in. Facebook will automatically adjust your feed based on your interests
